CNNL workers remove Ganesha idols from canals

September 10, 2022

Following the publication of a report titled ‘Devotion or destruction? Ganesha idols float and stink in canals’ in yesterday’s SOM, a team of five workers from Cauvery Neeravari Nigam Limited (CNNL) — locally called Sawdey workers who clean canals — began cleaning the canals in Srirangapatna that were clogged by the immersed Ganesha idols.

Hundreds of Plaster of Paris (PoP) idols are floating inside the canals in and around Srirangapatna (RBLL canals from KRS Dam near Pump House). Apart from clearing the idols, workers are also removing plastic waste and other materials discarded after puja.

The team was led by CNNL Section Engineer Manjunath.
