An inspiring spell of fast bowling by Mysuru lad medium-pacer M.B. Darshan (5 for 22), ably supported by M.S. Bhandage (four for 12), enabled Karnataka to skittle out Tamil Nadu for 94 in 42.2 overs in their first essay and at close, the hosts had scored 94 for three in 42 overs, to take control of the proceedings on the first day of the four-day Col. C.K. Nayudu Trophy Round VIII-Elite Group A & B tie played at the SDNR Wadiyar Grounds yesterday.
Electing to bat, TN were rattled by some good bowling by medium-pacer M.B. Darshan who impressed with figures of 12-6-22-5. He was ably supported by M.S. Bhandage who took four for 12. S. Swaminathan was the lone batsman to offer some resistance by remaining unbeaten on 34 for TN.
In reply, Karnataka had scored 94 for three in 42 overs. Skipper Nikin Jose (1) departed early. A valuable 70-run second wicket partnership between Shrijith (51, 7×4) and Sujith Gowda (31, 4×4, 1×6) steadied the innings. At close, Kishan Bedare and Kushal Wadhwani were at the crease and an interesting day’s play is in the offing yesterday.
