Mysuru: Thousands of Brahmins of the district participated in the colourful ‘Shobha Yatre’ taken out in city this morning under the aegis of District Brahmana Sangha as part of the ongoing District Brahmin Convention.
The ‘Shobha Yatre’ commenced from Shankara Mutt in Agrahara and proceeded through M.G. Road, Ramanuja Road and Yelethota, before culminating at Sri Ganapathy Sachchidananda Ashrama on Nanjangud Road here.
Leading the procession was a silver chariot carrying a portrait of ‘Gayatri Matha.’ The added attraction was a couple from Vidyaranyapuram, Satyanarayana and Lakshmi, dressed as Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi who were sitting in front of the portrait. The dignitaries showered flower petals on the portrait and also on the statues of Shankaracharya, Madhwacharya and Ramanujacharya carried in the procession.
A ‘Vedagosha Prarayana’ was conducted by scholar Dr. Shelvapillai Iyengar.
A puja was also performed to the ‘Nandi Dwaja.’ An array of folk troupes dressed in colourful attire performed various folk dances to the rhythmic beat of drums. Also in attendance was a ‘Nadaswara’ and a band set.
The participants of the procession wore traditional dresses in white carrying the saffron coloured flags with the inscription of ‘OM’.
Retired Chief Justice of High Court Kumar, MLC U.B. Venkatesh, Akhila Karnataka Brahmana Mahasabha President Venkatanarayan, Vice-President Lakshmikanth, District Brahmana Sangha President D.T. Prakash, District Co-operative Union President H.V. Rajeev and others were present.
