Committed Publishers have become a rarity: Veteran writer Dr. CPK

June 20, 2023

Mysore/Mysuru: Veteran writer Dr. C.P. Krishnakumar (CPK) said that committed publishers have become a rarity in these days of modernisation.

He was speaking after releasing Prof. H.S. Gopinath-80 felicitation volume and ‘Shankara Smruti’ book at a programme organised by Kannada Sahitya Kalakoota in association with Dr. K. Krishnamurthy Samshodhana Pratishtana and District Kannada Sahitya Parishat, in commemoration of Prof. H.M. Shankarnarayan at District Kannada Sahitya Bhavan in Vijayanagar I Stage here on June 10.

Noting that Shankaranarayan was a famous publisher during his (CPK) student days, Prof. Krishnakumar recalled that Shankaranarayan had inspired him to write. Bemoaning that the tribe of committed publishers is on the brink of extinct, he lamented that publishing is now on the brink of                                                                becoming commercial.

Stressing on the need for co-ordination between the writer, publisher and the reader for publication of good books, Prof. CPK said Prof. Shankaranarayan had brought out one of his (CPK) books and had a very friendly relationship with Dr. K. Krishnamurthy. The book ‘Shankara Smruti’ which has been brought out in the name of Prof. Shankaranarayan has the articles of 18 noted writers including Dr. Dejagow, he added.

Prof. H.S. Gopinath was felicitated on the occasion.

District Kannada Sahitya Parishat Mysuru President Maddikere Gopal, Writer Dr. K. Leela Prakash, MLC Marithibbegowda, former MLC R. Dharmasena, former Kannada faculty Prof. H.S. Harishankar, Kannada Sahitya Kalakoota President M. Chandrashekar, Dr. K. Krishnamurthy Samshodhana Pratishtana Convenor C.N. Keshavaprakash and others were present.
