Mysuru, Oct. 8 (KS)- On the occasion of World Heart Day, Manipal Hospital, Mysuru, had organised a special interactive session on preventive cardiology at its premises in city recently.
In line with this year’s theme, ‘Don’t Miss a Beat,’ the event addressed queries on heart health risks and prevention of diseases through continuous vigilance, regular check-ups and heart-healthy habits.
With an attendance of over 128 participants, the event saw the presence of leading specialists Dr. Upendra Shenoy, Consultant Cardio Thoracic & Vascular Surgery, Dr. C.B. Keshavamurthy, Senior Consultant Interventional Cardiology, Dr. Sharath Babu, Consultant Interventional Cardiology and J. Kavya, Senior Dietician, who addressed timely detection, lifestyle changes and barriers unique to Indian communities regarding heart disease.
Inaugurating the session, Dr. Shenoy noted, “For Indians, genetic predisposition and lifestyle factors increase the risk of heart disease, especially among younger populations and Indians living abroad who face unique risks because of our racial predilection for heart disease. This is why it is important to notice the slightest symptoms like chest pain, breathlessness, palpitations and fatigue, which can help us recognise issues early on and reduce the growing burden of cardiac conditions.”
Talking about preventive care, Dr. Keshavamurthy explained, “About 80 percent of heart disease and strokes are preventable with consistent attention and timely intervention. Through sustainable actions like eating healthy, staying active, managing stress and seeking medical evaluation even before symptoms appear, we can take control of our heart health.”
The event also touched upon major treatment options, such as angioplasty and bypass surgery, which are recommended based on the extent of coronary artery blockage.
Participants had the opportunity to engage with the experts, who patiently addressed all their concerns related to heart.
