Anil Kumble, Rahul Dravid names doing rounds as inaugurators

Mysuru: Mysuru District In-charge Minister Dr. Yathindra Siddaramaiah has asked officials to complete the ongoing major projects such as  the construction of flyover at Manipal Hospital junction, white- topping of roads & National Highway works and to suspend long-term works which remain incomplete, till Dasara gets over.

He was speaking at the Dasara Executive Committee meeting at ZP Hall here yesterday.

Pointing out that he has directed the officials to ensure smooth vehicular and pedestrian movement on city roads during Dasara, he said that the authorities have been told to fix potholes on all roads by Dasara.

“The selection of the personality who will inaugurate Dasara atop Chamundi Hill on Oct. 11 has been left to the discretion of the Chief Minister. However, some Legislators have given their own suggestions in this regard. Though the names of  former International cricketers Anil Kumble and Rahul Dravid are doing the rounds, the choice of Dasara inaugurator has been left to the  decision of the Chief Minister,” he said.

Referring to the selection of Dasara elephants, the Minister said the selection process is on. The Forest Department officials have sent a report in this regard and the list of Dasara elephants will be announced soon, he noted.

Commenting on Dasara Air Show, he said that the show will be held if the Union Government gives permission. Pointing out that there are plans for making the Drone Show more innovative and spectacular, he said the Government will be in touch with the Centre regarding the Show.

H.D. Kote MLA Anil Chikkamadu wanted the Government to organise Kabini Utsava too during the Nada Habba. He also appealed for making travel arrangements for tribal population to come to  Mysuru for watching  Dasara illumination and visit tourist attractions such as Chamundi Hill and KRS.

MLA Rameshbabu Bandisiddegowda, who is also CESC Chairman, said that it has become imperative to purchase power due to failure of monsoon. Noting that more power is needed for Dasara, he suggested that the Government look for sponsors of Drone Show. He also  sought more funds for Dasara illumination.
