Conferences on ‘current economic crisis’ in India

Mysuru:  Maharani’s Arts College had Organised a State-level symposium on ‘Current Indian Economic Crisis: Need for State intervention’ at the College premises here.

About 100 faculty members of Department of Economics from various colleges participated.

Inaugurating the programme Retired Professor and former member of Tax Reforms Committee, Government of Karnataka B.S. Srikantaradhya observed that the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) has slumped to 50 percent, clearly indicating a negative growth. He said that the unemployment rate too has gone up to 8.5%, the highest in last 45 years. He opined that State intervention is vital now.

Delivering the keynote address, Mahajana PG Centre Director Dr. C.K. Renukarya said that the economic slowdown has badly hit the manufacturing sector and added that export of any product has become tough. He opined that the farming sector is not included in many policies. He suggested that the root of the problem should be tackled. 

College Principal Dr. B.T. Vijay, Equality Institute for Thought and Action (EITA) President Dr. N.C. Sumathi  were present.

At Rotary Hall

A round table conference on economic slowdown was organised by Abhivyakti Swathanthrakkagi Nagarika Vedike at Rotary Hall on JLB Road.

MGP member Maj. Gen. S.G. Vombatkere, economist Chintamani, former Speaker Krishna, social activist P. Mallesh and Mysore Industries Association Secretary Suresh Kumar Jain participated. Discussion was held on economic crisis in the country and on prominent factors leading to the crisis.
