Congress retains hold over Chamarajanagar district, wins three out of four Constituencies

Chamarajanagar: The Congress registered a big win in its stronghold of Chamarajanagar district, winning three out of the Four assembly segments.

While, A.R. Krishnamurthy won from Kollegal (SC Reserve), former Minister C. Puttarangashetty who was pitted against BJP candidate and Minister V.Somanna in Chamarajanagar registered victory and so did H.M. Ganeshprasad in Gundlupet. The JD(S) registered its only victory in the district bagging Hanur seat, while the BJP drew a blank .

C. Puttarangashetty, a three time Congress MLA and also a former Minister, won from Chamarajanagar for the fourth successive time, defeating high profile candidate V. Somanna of the BJP, by a margin of over 7,500 votes in a high stakes contest. Incidentally,  Somanna also lost in Varuna Constituency in Mysuru against Congress stalwart and former Chief Minister Siddharamaiah.

Congress candidate H.M. Ganeshprasad won in Gundlupet  defeating sitting MLA and BJP candidate C.S.Niranjankumar by a huge margin of over 36,000 votes. Ganeshprasad, the son of late Minister H.S. Mahadevaprasad, registered a resounding victory in his political debut.

In Hanur, the JD(S) registered its maiden victory with its candidate M.R. Manjunath defeating three-time MLA and Congress candidate R. Narendra, by a margin of nearly 22,000 votes, thus blocking a clean sweep of the district by the Congress.

The BJP candidate Dr. Preethan Nagappa came a distant third.
