Congress sacks seven Mandya leaders for backing opponent

Bengaluru: The Congress yesterday sacked seven Block Committee heads of Mandya district for backing actress Sumalatha Ambarish, who is contesting as an independent candidate from Mandya LS seat.

Those sacked are Mandya Rural Block Congress President H. Appaji, Bharathinagar Block President A.S. Rajiv, Malavalli Rural Block President Puttaramu, Malavalli Town Block                                                                 President K.G. Devaraj, Nagamangala Town Block President M. Prasanna, K.R. Pet Block President K.R. Ravindra Babu and Melukote Block President S.B. Prakash.

The sacked seven Block Presidents were accused of campaigning for Sumalatha Ambarish, while ignoring the KPCC ‘Diktat’ not to back Sumalatha     in the Polls.

The Congress, which has warned of strict action against any leader found violating the party’s directions, had recently suspended nine youth Congress leaders including KPCC Member Sachidananda for anti-party activities.

Even as the Congress suspended seven Block Congress heads, Pandavapura Block Congress President Krishnegowda was reportedly found campaigning for Sumalatha Ambarish on Wednesday.
