IFS Officers Venuprasad and Deep Contractor to talk tomorrow
Mysore/Mysuru: Forests are essential for maintaining ecological balance and play an important role in climate regulation and carbon sequestration.
Due to various anthropogenic activities, forest area is decreasing rapidly. In recent days one of the biggest issues contributing to the climate change is depletion of forests and threats to flora and fauna.
There is a need to understand the importance for conservation of forests. The best way to approach the above issues is through open and transparent discussions with researchers and conservators.
As ex-situ conservation centre and as part of its objectives, Sri Chamarajendra Zoological Gardens, popular as Mysuru Zoo, is conducting many conservation education programmes and among this, Conservation Speak Series is one of them.
After a long gap due to Covid-19, Mysuru Zoo is reviving its Conservation Speak Series by holding its 23rd Conservation Speak on May 31 at 3 pm at Zoo amphitheatre.
H. Venuprasad, IFS, will share his views on “Changes in Forest Cover in Karnataka and its Implications” while Deep J. Contractor, IFS, Deputy Conservator of Forests (Working Plan), Mysuru, will share her experience on “My Journey to Antarctica.”
Venuprasad is a 1996 batch IFS Officer of the Tamil Nadu cadre and Deep is the first woman forest officer and the third forest officer to reach Antarctica.
