Constable on pilgrimage to Sabarimala drowns in canal

Nanjangud: A Police Constable, who was on a pilgrimage to Sabarimala, was drowned in a canal at Kalale village in the taluk.

The deceased is Chidanand (30), a Constable attached to Kadur Police Station in Chikamagalur district.

Chidanand and his friends were on their way to Sabarimala and reached the right bank canal on Sunday evening, where they ventured into the water for a bath.

Chidanand, who did not know to swim, was swept away due to water force and when others came out of the water, they found Chidanand missing and immediately informed the Police.

Dy.SP Prabhakar Shinde, Circle Inspector Rajashekar, Sub-Inspector Satish and staff rushed to the spot and summoned Fire and Emergency Services personnel and expert swimmers, who have launched a search operation to trace and fish out the body.
