Contract nurses oppose cut in stipend

Mysuru: Contract Nurses serving in K.R, Cheluvamba, PKTB and ED Hospitals, have strongly opposed the abrupt reduction in their stipend.

Addressing a press conference here yesterday, the contract Nurses claimed that their stipend had been reduced by half, which has severely disappointed them. Pointing out that they felt happy when their stipend was hiked to Rs. 17,500 a year ago, they said that the Government, all of a sudden, brought down the stipend to just Rs. 8,000, which has shocked them.

Claiming that the huge reduction was a big blow to their livelihood, they said that what the Government was paying them was not enough to lead a decent living.

Alleging that the authorities had refused them to stage protest and even threatened them if they went ahead with a strike, the Contract Nurses urged for the intervention of  CM Siddharamaiah, District Minister Dr. H.C. Mahadevappa, Medical Education Minister and other authorities to render them justice.
