Mysuru: Stating that the 15th chapter of Bhagavadgita says mind is the sixth sense of a human being, former Vice-Chancellor  of Sri Krishnadevaraya University at Ballari, Prof. Manjappa D. Hosamane observed that control of mind is vital for effective learning.

He was speaking after inaugurating free coaching camp for the written exam for recruitment of Assistant Professors, conducted by the Competitive Examination Coaching Centre (CECC) of Karnataka State Open University (KSOU) at Cauvery auditorium in Muktagangothri campus, Hunsur Road here on Wednesday.

Reiterating that control over mind is key in the learning process, Prof. Manjappa said that according to a study, about 30,000 thoughts flash across in a human mind on an average every day. Noting that it is natural for a human mind to tempt to do what is unnecessary, he said that in this backdrop, it is important to have control over the mind.

Arguing that control over mind also helps in erasing negative thoughts, he said that the mind needs some sort of training for having control. Contending that concentrated and dedicated learning will be of huge help in our career, he said that skilled learning is vital for achieving success in competitive and recruitment exams.

KSOU Vice-Chancellor Prof. S. Vidyashankar, who presided, said that it is vital for candidates to update their knowledge by reading newspapers every day. Stressing on the need for analysing articles on different fields, he said that gaining General Knowledge is very important in clearing  competitive exams and hoped that the camp will help the aspirants in a big way.

More than 100 candidates from different parts of the State are taking part in this month-long coaching camp. Senior Journalist Amshi Prasannakumar, KSOU Registrar Prof. R. Rajanna, Finance Officer A. Khader Pasha, Coaching Centre Co-ordinator Jainahalli Sathyanarayanagowda and others were present.
