Corporator, Police conduct awareness on chain-snatching

Mysuru: Following chain-snatching incidents in city, Corporator Pramila Bharat and Lakshmipuram Police conducted an awareness programme on chain-snatching to the public at the Freedom Fighters’ Park in Subbarayanakere in city recently.

Handbills with messages such as not to go alone when wearing gold jewellery, to cover the neck with veil while walking, to be careful while carrying cash and other valuables in vanity bags etc., were distributed during the awareness programme.

Speaking on the occasion, Corporator Pramila asked the womenfolk present during the programme not to walk alone and cover their neck with veil or scarf while walking in parks and other places besides asking them to contact Police if they come across any suspicious persons nearby.

She also said that prevention of crime was not only the responsibility of the Police but the responsibility of all and asked the public to co-operate with the Police.

Lakshmipuram ASI M. Prabhudev, who also spoke, said that the co-operation of the public was essential in apprehending chain-snatchers. He asked the public to stay away from strangers who behave as if they known them, besides asking them to note down the registration number of the vehicle of the person who is found moving in suspicious manner and inform the same by calling the phone number mentioned in the handbill.

Police Constables S.M. Mahesh, Mallikarjunaswamy, Kumar and others were present.
