Furniture, cash worth Rs. 1.68 crore swindled from three Hassan friends

Mysuru: A Mysuru-based couple has allegedly cheated three friends from Hassan district of over Rs. 1.68 crore by promising to double their investments in interior design projects. A case has been registered against the couple at Vijayanagar Police Station. The complainants are Yathish Kumar, Amirjan and Thippesh of Hassan district. The accused have been identified as Kiran and his wife Prithvi,  residents of Vijayanagar in Mysuru.

According to the complaint, Yathish Kumar, who runs an office in Hemavathi Nagar, Hassan, had posted an advertisement on OLX in May 2025, offering his office premises for rent.

Kiran contacted him expressing interest in taking the office on rent and later visited Hassan to inspect the premises.

After seeing the office and its furniture, Kiran allegedly claimed that he owned ‘Glint Infratech Pvt. Ltd’. in Vijayanagar, Mysuru and persuaded Yathish to send the furniture to Mysuru, assuring him that he would pay double its value. Believing him, Yathish transported furniture worth Rs. 40 lakh to Mysuru.

Kiran and Prithvi later convinced Yathish to invest in their interior design projects, promising to double the investment.

Between June 16 and July 31, 2025, they allegedly collected Rs. 9.80 lakh from him. Claiming that they were launching a second project, they collected another Rs. 8.10 lakh between Aug. 5 and 26. They subsequently collected Rs. 14 lakh in September 2025 for a third project and Rs. 11 lakh in October for a fourth project.

Yathish also persuaded his friends to invest in the projects. Amirjan invested Rs. 23 lakh, while Thippesh invested Rs. 24.40 lakh. In all, the couple allegedly collected more than Rs. 1.28 crore besides taking possession of furniture worth Rs. 40 lakh, taking the total amount to Rs. 1.68 crore.

When several months passed without any returns or repayment, Yathish questioned Kiran, who allegedly kept postponing the matter on one pretext or another.

On Aug. 6, 2026, Yathish and his friends visited Kiran’s office at Vijayanagar 3rd Stage in Mysuru and demanded that their money be returned. However, Kiran allegedly abused them in foul language and threatened them with dire consequences instead of repaying the amount.

Following the incident, Yathish and his friends lodged a complaint against Kiran and Prithvi, accusing them of cheating, criminal intimidation and abuse. Based on the complaint, Vijayanagar Police have registered a case and taken up an investigation.
