Nanjangud: A couple was found dead under mysterious circumstances at Toremavu village in the taluk this morning.

The deceased have been identified as Mahendra Patil (36) and his wife Shruthi (28).

Mahendra Patil was working as a contract employee at a factory in Tandya Industrial Area, while his wife Shruthi was a  homemaker.

The couple, who had got married six years ago, was said to have engaged in a verbal duel last night.

As the couple did not open the door of the house this morning, the neighbours opened the window, when they found Mahendra Patil hanging from the  roof, while Shruthi lied dead on the floor nearby.

Soon, the villagers informed the matter to Nanjangud Rural Police who rushed to the spot and conducted mahazar.

The Police suspect that Mahendra Patil may have first hacked Shruthi to death                                                    and later took his own life by hanging self.

Nanjangud Rural Police have registered a case in this regard and are investigating.
