Court sentences five dacoits to five years jail

Mysuru:  The 4th Additional District and Sessions Court has sentenced five dacoits to five years imprisonment besides imposing a fine of Rs. 5,000 to each of them.

Those who were sentenced by the Court are Mahesh, Diwakar, Ganesh, Raghu and Kumar, residents of city.

The accused on Dec. 6, 2008, after consuming liquor near the water reservoir at R.T. Nagar and went near Prasanna and Bharat, who were watching birds and threatened them using broken beer bottles. They later made away with three mobile phones worth about Rs. 55,000, ATM Card, Binocular, Sunglass, Rs. 300 cash and other items of Prasanna and Bharat.

The then Circle Inspector of Jayapura Police Station Sadananda A. Thippanavar had registered a case and had submitted the charge-sheet against the accused to the Court. The Judge, who heard the arguments found the accused guilty of the crime and pronounced the judgment. Previous Public Prosecutor Anand M. Hosamani and present Public Prosecutor P.B. Dharennavar argued for the government.
