Court sentences woman to six months jail for cheating friend

Mysuru:  City’s First Additional CJ and CJM Court has sentenced a woman to six months imprisonment and a fine of Rs. 20,000 for cheating her friend,

The woman who was sentenced is Yashodha, a resident of Srinivasa Temple Street in Hale Bandikeri in city.

Yashodha, in 2012, had borrowed gold jewellery weighing about 95.2 grams from her friend Jayanthi, also a resident of the same street saying that she wanted to get her sisters married and wanted the jewellery for the photo shoot.

But after receiving the gold ornaments, Yashodha had pledged the same for Rs. 1.85 lakh and had failed to return the gold ornaments to Jayanthi thus cheating her (Jayanthi) following which Jayanthi lodged a complaint at K.R. Police Station.

K.R. Police, who had registered a case in this regard, conducted an investigation and had submitted a charge-sheet against the accused to the Court.

Judge Yashwanth Kumar, who heard the hearing from both sides found the accused guilty of the crime and sentenced Yashodha to six months imprisonment and a fine of Rs. 20,000.
