Curb increasing traffic violations

July 9, 2019

Sir,

The number of accidents in Mysuru city are increasing and this is due to utter neglect of traffic laws by motorists.

It is time the authorities concerned came down heavily on traffic violators.

One of the major causes is the mobile phone. Almost everyone seems to be on the mobile phone while driving including heavy vehicle drivers. This is a very serious and dangerous situation.

Even in a well-disciplined European country a fine has been imposed on cyclists too who use mobile phones, as smart phones are involved in one in every five accidents. The situation here would be far worse considering the huge traffic volumes, the increasing speeds and total disregard for safe driving.

Instead of focus on helmetless drivers, the focus should shift on traffic violations.
