Curb this nuisance of big school buses

October 3, 2026

Sir,

I wish to draw the urgent attention of the Mysuru City Traffic Police and the Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) to the alarming traffic situation within inner residential layouts, particularly in Krishnamurthypuram.

To ensure pedestrian safety and protect basic civil infrastructure, heavy transport vehicles are expected to stay on main arterial roads.

However, of late, private educational institutions are deploying massive buses into our narrow residential cross-streets. In fact, right here in Krishnamurthypuram, I regularly count as many as 17 to 18 large school buses passing through the neighbourhood during peak morning and afternoon hours.

Our locality is home to a large number of elderly residents. Because of these massive buses invading the narrow lanes, senior citizens are facing immense trouble just trying to step outside.

It has become incredibly stressful and unsafe for them to go for their routine morning or evening walks or step out to buy daily essentials.

Any bus with a capacity exceeding 32 seats is simply too large for these interior layouts.

These oversized vehicles navigate tight residential corners with extreme difficulty, frequently damaging low-hanging overhead cables, clipping compound gates and cracking the edges of asphalted roads.

Furthermore, when these heavy buses stop to pick up or drop off children, they block the entire street width, creating completely avoidable traffic bottlenecks.

While the convenience of school children is understandable, a clear rule must be enforced: Buses with a capacity over 32 seats should be banned from entering narrow lanes.

Schools must restrict these large buses to main roads and deploy smaller feeder vans or mini-cabs for inner-layout pick-ups.

I request the Transport authorities to conduct field inspections in Krishnamurthypuram zone and penalise schools that continue to push these big buses deep into quiet residential neighbourhoods.
