Mysuru’s Prajwal Dev goes down in semis

Mysuru’s S.D. Prajwal Dev, representing India, lost in the Singles semi-finals of the Cycle Pure Agarbathi ITF Mysuru Open 2023 at the Mysore Tennis Club (MTC) this morning.

In the semi-finals, unseeded George Loffhagen of Britain continued his winning spree in the tournament, beating Prajwal Dev 7-5, 6-4.

Earlier in the quarter-finals played yesterday, Prajwal Dev showed immense tenacity in carving a 1-6, 7-5, 7-6 (4) win over compatriot Mukund Sasikumar to waltz into the Singles semi-finals. Mysuru lad Prajwal, a World No. 1027, came as the underdog against fourth seeded Mukund, a World No. 401, but dished out a performance that masked the difference in ranking.

The USD 25,000 event is being hosted by the Karnataka State Lawn Tennis Association (KSLTA).

In another Singles semi-finals played today, Australia’s 8th seed Ellis Blake beat 2nd seed Oliver Crawford of USA 7-5, 6-3.

In the Singles finals to be held tomorrow, Ellis Blake will take on George Loffhagen.

Doubles

In the Doubles played yesterday, top-seeded Indian pair of B. Rithvik Choudary and Niki Poonacha strolled past fourth seeds and compatriots Parikshit Somani and Manish Sureshkumar 6-3, 6-3 to enter the final.

Later, Mukund Sasikumar made up for his defeat in Singles when he, along with Vishnu Vardhan, reached the Doubles semi-finals, defeating Indian duo Faisal Qamar and Fardeen Quamar 7-6 (7), 3-6, 10-7 in the quarter-final match that was carried over from Thursday.

The semi-final match of  Mukund Sasikumar & Vishnu Vardhan Vs Vladyslav Orlov & Blake Ellis was underway today when we went to the Press.
