Even as he arrived at Kalamandira to take part in the programme, Champa had to face the wrath of Dalit organisations, for his recent outbursts against introduction of English medium in Government Primary Schools.
Taking strong objection to Champa’s attack on the Government over English medium in Government Schools, during the recently held 84th Akhila Bharata Kannada Sahitya Sammelana at Dharwad, Dalit organisations gheraoed the veteran writer.
Questioning Champa on where his children and grandchildren had studied, the Dalit leaders wanted to know from the writer whether he did not want children from poor families to study in English medium.
Raising slogans against Champa, the protesters also questioned Champa on why only Government Schools were targeted, while private schools which focussed on English were not questioned in this regard.
