A dangerous traffic violation has become a common sight at signal junctions across Mysuru. When the signal turns red, some two-wheeler riders and auto drivers move to the wrong side of the road median and wait there, facing oncoming traffic.

As soon as the signal turns green, they attempt to rush ahead of the vehicles waiting in the proper lane. They then abruptly cut across the moving traffic to get to the left side of the road. This creates confusion, tension and a serious risk of collision for motorists who are patiently following the rules.

What is even more disturbing is that this happens at almost every major signal junction — including junctions where Traffic Police are deployed and at times, even right in front of Traffic Police Stations.

Traffic rules are meant to ensure orderly and safe movement, not merely to be followed when convenient.

The Traffic Police should take note of this particular violation and conduct strict enforcement at signal junctions.

A little vigilance and timely action can prevent serious unwarranted accidents.
