Mysuru: The second batch of five Dasara elephants will be arriving in city tomorrow. The five elephants to be brought in the second batch are- Prashanth, Mahendra, Sugreeva, Lakshmi and Hiranya (three male and two female elephants) and are expected to reach Mysore Palace between 3.30 pm and 4 pm tomorrow from their respective elephant camps.
Preparations are being made to welcome the five elephants by performing traditional puja at the Mysore Palace premises.
Weight check for these five elephants will be held on Friday and it has been decided to provide training to them along with the first batch of nine elephants, to acclimatise them with Jumboo Savari route, after Ganesha festival.
Meanwhile, temporary shelters for mahouts, kavadis and Dasara elephants have been completed in the Palace premises.
It may be recalled that the first batch of nine elephants – Golden Howdah carrier Abhimanyu, Varalakshmi, Dhananjaya, Gopi, Bheema, Lakshmi, Kanjan, Rohit and Ekalavya – arrived in Mysuru on Aug. 21 and were housed at Aranya Bhavan in Ashokapuram.
The nine Dasara elephants were accorded a traditional welcome at Jayamarthanda Gate of Mysore Palace on Aug. 23.
