Dasara elephants relax at Aranya Bhavan

September 2, 2023

All nine Dasara elephants, transported in trucks from Veeranahosahalli in Hunsur last evening, have arrived at Aranya Bhavan in Mysuru, accompanied by their mahouts and kavadis as part of the Gajapayana tradition. They were bathed this morning and provided with nourishing meals prepared on-site, alongside fresh green grass and leaves. The majestic elephants, including Abhimanyu, the Golden Howdah elephant, are scheduled to embark on their procession to the Mysore Palace on Sept. 5, during the auspicious Abhijin Lagna between 12.01 pm and 12.51 pm. Initially planned for Sept. 4, their arrival at the Palace was postponed by a day in accordance with the astrological calendar and constellations traditionally followed by the Mysore Palace. Upon reaching the Palace, their rigorous training for the Vijayadashami procession will commence, accompanied by a sumptuous diet.
