October 26, 2023
  • Veteran Arjuna remains mightiest at 5,850 kgs
  • Bhima increases its weight by 500 kgs in 50 days
  • Captain Abhimanyu’s weight increased by 300 kgs

Mysore/Mysuru: After successfully completing their responsibilities during Dasara festivities including the Jumboo Savari, all 14 Dasara elephants underwent weight check at Sairam and Co., 40 tonnes Electronic Weighing Services on Dhanvantri Road here yesterday.

Though nine elephants arrived in the first batch on Sept. 6, only eight of them underwent weight check as Arjuna had gone to capture a tiger. On Oct. 27, the weight of all 14 elephants were checked again during which veteran Arjuna weighed 5,680 kgs and yesterday, the weight was checked and again Ajuna remained the mightiest with 5,850 kgs, an increase of 170 kgs. But Bhima has gained 500 kgs while Captain Abhimanyu has increased its weight by 300 kgs.

The increase in weight can be attributed to the nutritious food given to them during the 50-day stay at Mysore Palace, where a temporary shed was built to house them. All the 14 jumbos were taken to the weigh bridge via K.R. Circle, Sayyaji Rao Road and Dhanvantri Road, where the weights of all 14 elephants were checked. While Arjuna remained the mightiest (5,850 kgs) among the 14 elephants, Vijaya weighed 2,845 kgs and remained last.
