Dasara Pass row refuses to die down

October 6, 2019

Mysuru: The dharna by Congress and JD(S)Corporators in front of City Corporation protesting against the District Administration’s decision to issue only five passes each to Corporators for watching Dasara Procession and Torchlight Parade, entered Day-2 today.

Former Minister and MLA S.R. Mahesh, former MLA M.K. Somashekar, JD(S) leader Abdulla and other top leaders from both the parties visited the protestors to express their support.

As the protest continued, ADC B.R. Poornima visited the protest site this morning and made attempts to convince the Corporators to withdraw the stir.

Former Mayor M.J. Ravikumar is said to have told the ADC that the MCC Pourakarmikas will stop cleaning works from tomorrow.

The Corporators also vented out their ire against the District Minister V. Somanna and MP Pratap Simha saying that the two take responsibility for cleaning operations from tomorrow.

Mayor Pushpalatha Jagannath addressing the protesting Corporators last night, said that District Minister V. Somanna, in a Dasara meeting earlier, had assured that the Corporators will be given a fair deal and had sought full co-operation.

Following Somanna’s request, all the Corporators extended their co-operation. But the District Administration has caused injustice to the Corporators by issuing only five passes each, which is unfair, she said.

Maintaining that all Corporators have contributed their mite for the success of Dasara events and ‘Mane-Mane Dasara,’ she urged the District Minister and the Administration to listen to the grievances of the Corporators regarding Dasara passes.

The Corporators raised slogans against V. Somanna, accusing him of failing to keep his word.

Deputy Mayor Shafi Ahmed, Corporator SBM Manju, former  Mayor Ayub Khan and others were present.
