Dasara Sports 2019: Mysuru Division reigns supreme

Bengaluru City men and Mysuru Division women excel

Mysuru Division with 203 points, lifted the overall championship title on the concluding day of Dasara Sports 2019 at the Chamundi Vihar Stadium here yesterday.

A superior performance by the Mysuru Division’s women (athletics & team games-109 points) to Bengaluru City’s’ (athletics & team games- 84 points), helped them to bag the title. Bengaluru City’s sportsmen dominated in the men’s section by securing 104 points compared to Mysuru Division’s 94 points. Bengaluru City came overall second with 188 points. With the 10 gold medals at stake on the final day of the athletic event, both Mysuru and Bengaluru city shared five gold medals each. Chethan of Bengaluru City created a new meet record in the men’s high jump clearing a height of 2.13mts erasing his record of 2.10 mts set in 2014.

In athletics, V.A. Shashikanth of Bengaluru City, who scored 1,040 points, emerged as the Best athlete in the men’s section while N.S. Inchara also of Bengaluru City was declared as Best Women athlete with  1,032.

This year’s Dasara Sports witnessed a total of six new meet records being created in athletics by Vishwambhar Kolekar (1500 mts, Bengaluru City), V.A. Shashikanth (100 mts sprint, Bengaluru City), Mohan Kumar (Mysuru Division, Shot Put), Chethan (Bengaluru City, High Jump), V. Ambika (Mysuru Division, Shot Put) and Chaitra Devadiga (Mysuru Division, 5,000 mts).

In swimming, Hiten Mittal of Bengaluru City hogged the limelight by winning five gold medals and securing the individual title. In the final day’s events, Deeksha Ramesh won two gold medals in the 50 mts freestyle and 50 mts breast stroke events. Janavi Pednekar (Belagavi, 800 mts freestyle), Anesha Girish (100 mts butterfly) and Bhoomika R. Kesarkar (Bengaluru City, 200 mts backstroke) won a gold medal each.

The prizes to the winners were given away by K.S. Eshwarappa, Minister Youth Services & Sports. Grand Masters G.A. Stany and Girish A. Koushik along with International Kabaddi women player Uma were felicitated on the occasion.

Padmini (Bengaluru City, 24.06 sec); 4×400 mts Relay: Bengaluru City (E.B. Arpitha, M. Arpitha, N.S. Inchara, Likitha, 3:48:06 sec). Best Athlete: N.S. Inchara (Bengaluru City: 1,032 points).
