Dasara wood-carving workshop begins

September 16, 2017

Mysuru: A ten-day workshop on wood sculpture, organised by Dasara Fine Arts and Handicrafts Sub-Committee, commenced this morning at the premises of Kalamandira here.

Ten wood sculptors from across the State are participating in the workshop. They are provided with Shivani wood and the theme for sculpture is Hoysala era and they are supposed to sculpt ten exhibits — five each of traditional and modern type.

The workshop was inaugurated by R. Kalachar, Chairman, Lalithakala Academy, who offered puja to Shivani wood and later initiated carving on that.

Speaking on the occasion, Kalachar regretted that the number of wood sculptors were on the decline and sought the assistance and encouragement of art patrons to revive the art.

Sub-Committee Working President Gavi Siddaiah, Vice-President Pushpavalli and others were present.
