DC chairs bi-annual meeting of Aerodrome Committee

Mysuru: The Bi-annual Meeting of Aerodrome Committee and Airport Environment Management Committee was held at the Mandakalli Airport premises here this morning under the chairmanship of  Deputy Commissioner  D. Randeep.

The meeting held twice a year mainly deals with safety and security issues of the Airport.

The meeting was attended by Airport Director Manoj Kumar Singh, Assistant Director (IB) Suresh Kumar, DCP Dr. H.T. Shekar, Special Land Acquisition Officer Arul Kumar, Kadakola Medical Officer Dr. Nagakanya, MCC Superintending Engineer Suresh Babu (representing MCC Commissioner) and all other stake-holders of the Airport including BSNL,  KSRTC and KIADB.

Today’s meeting took into account the suggestion made by the former President Pranab Mukherjee’s security officials asking the Mysore Airport authorities to heighten the security in emergency situations. They had suggested to open the emergency gate (now unused) to handle any untoward incidents. The DC said that the emergency gates cannot be kept open regularly due to intrusion that will make VIPs vulnerable and also owing to shortage of security staff. Stating that the perimeter road around the runway in the Airport was developed at a cost of Rs. 1 crore with lighting facilities for Police patrolling during night time, the DC said that an ACP cadre officer would be appointed soon to man the security.
