DC inspects EVM godown in city

Mysuru: With the State Assembly polls round the corner, the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) are being brought to city from today.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) D. Randeep visited Vidyavardhaka College on Seshadri Iyer Road in city, where the EVMs will be stacked under tight security.

There are 2,687 polling booths in the District and the Election Commission of India will be dispatching 3,500 EVMs in batches, with the first consignment of EVMs arriving today.

Additional DC T. Yogesh, AC Veena and other officials accompanied the DC.

Speaking to SOM, DC Randeep said that 3,500 EVMs fitted with VVPAT meant for the district will be arriving in batches, out of which nearly 40 percent are buffer stock.

Pointing out that any malfunctioning EVMs will be replaced from the buffer stock, Randeep said that Technical experts from Bharath Electronics Ltd., (BEL) will be arriving in city next week to check the functioning of the EVMs through FSLC Test. Once thorough checks are concluded, demonstrations will be held to educate leaders of all political parties on the functioning of EVMs. To ensure foolproof security and safety of EVMs, CC cameras have been installed at vantage points in the godown, he said and added that the district administration in looking for a second godown nearby to store EVMs.
