DC launches cleaning drive in N’gud

Deputy Commissioner (DC) D. Randeep, launched the cleaning programme of Sri Srikanteshwara Temple surroundings organised jointly by the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB), District Administration, Nanjangud Industries Association, Temple Administration Board and Nanjangud City Municipal Council in the Temple Town recently.

The cleaning was undertaken at Kapila River bathing ghat, temple premises and surroundings.

Speaking on the occasion, DC Randeep said that District Minister Dr. H.C. Mahadevappa had allotted more funds for the overall development of the temple and to concrete Ratha Beedhi. The development works has been taken up and Nanjangud has become a well-known pilgrimage place, he added.

The DC further said that it was the responsibility of everyone to keep the town clean and tidy and added that it was not enough to undertake cleaning works just for a day but should be undertaken regularly.

Calling upon the devotees to give prominence to cleanliness, the DC asked them not to dispose flowers and clothes in the river.

More than 200 volunteers, Temple Executive Officer Jayaprakash, Tahsildar M. Dayanand, Industries Association President Ramprasad, Temple Assistant Executive Officer Gangaiah, City Municipal Council Commissioner Vijay, KSPCB Officer Lingaraju and others took part in the cleaning programme.  

DC D. Randeep later undertook inspection of various developmental works in the temple premises.
