Asks officials to submit report by July 10
Mysuru: With the alarming rise in Dengue and other vector-borne diseases causing a scare in the district, Deputy Commissioner D. Randeep today held a meeting with Health Department officials on improving bio-medical waste disposal mechanism in the district.
Addressing the meeting, DC Randeep said that there were 165 Government Health Care Centres including General Hospitals and Primary Health Centres (PHCs) in the district and the waste generated in these Centres are sent for Disposal Plants near Varuna and H.D. Kote.
Asking the officials to check whether the bio-medical wastes are disposed off properly at these two Plants, the DC directed to ensure that the 2016 guidelines are followed for effective disposal of wastes.
Instructing the officials to have an Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with agencies involved in disposal of wastes, he asked the officials to make it sure that the bio-medical wastes generated in Hospitals are properly segregated and shifted to the Plants within 48 hours of generation.
Stressing on the need for training Critical Health Care staff in proper segregation and disposal of bio-medical waste, he cautioned that improper disposal may lead to cancer.
He asked the officials to submit a report by July 10 on the measures taken for effective disposal of bio-medical wastes and to conduct regular health check-up on all staff involved in waste disposal.
The DC also directed the Pollution Control Board officials to regularly monitor safe disposal of hospital wastes.
DHO Dr. B. Basavaraj, District Surgeon Dr. Pashupathi, Pollution Control Board Officer Dr. Raghuram and other officials attended the meeting.
