DCs, SPs of border districts hold meeting in Madikeri

April 13, 2018

Madikeri: In view of the State Assembly polls, a meeting of Deputy Commissioners (DCs) and Superintendents of Police (SPs) of border districts of Karnataka and Kerala met at the Kodagu DC’s  office here on Wednesday, to chalk out plans for the May 12 elections.

The meeting was chaired by Kodagu DC P. I. Srividya.

Speaking at the meeting, Srividya said that people from Kerala’s Kannur, Wayanad and Kasaragod districts bordering Karnataka have maintained trade and commerce relations with the district. As such it was important to put appropriate measures in place to ensure free and fair polls, she said.

Pointing out that inter-State check posts have been set up at Kutta, Makutta and Karike, she asked the officials to ensure that no illegal activities of any sort will take place.

DC Srividya also instructed the officials to issue press releases mentioning that there will be no document verification for cash upto Rs.50,000 and the people should carry supporting documents if they want to carry cash beyond Rs. 50,000. Also, the release should highlight restrictions on liquor and  the rampant checks being carried out to prevent electoral malpractices.

Pointing out that people from Kerala will be bringing huge cash to get their wards admitted to professional courses in Karnataka, she said that such people must carry supporting documents to avoid hurdles.

She also suggested that it will be better for people to carry out cash transactions through banks rather than carrying cash.

SP Rajendra Prasad, in his address, said that Kutta, Makutta and Karike areas have been identified as sensitive ones.
