Death of couple in road mishap: KSRTC driver jailed, fined

Srirangapatna: A Court in Srirangapatna has sentenced a KSRTC driver to one year imprisonment, besides imposing a penalty of Rs. 3,000 on him, for the death of a couple in a road mishap that took place nearly three years ago.

Mallappa Gurikar is the KSRTC driver who has been sentenced.

Ravi and Prabhavathi, a couple from Mahadevapura village in the taluk, were travelling on a motorcycle towards Srirangapatna on Mysuru-Bengaluru Highway on Nov. 17, 2016, when they were fatally knocked down by a KSRTC bus near Lokapavani Bridge in the taluk.

Srirangapatna Town Police,  who had registered a case in this regard, had submitted a charge-sheet against KSRTC bus driver Mallappa Gurikar in the Court.

Srirangapatna Principal Civil Court Judge Veeranna Somashekar who heard the case, held Gurikar guilty and sentenced him to one year imprisonment.

Public prosecutor S. Nazeerma Begum argued on behalf of the Government.
