Debt ridden farmer ends life

Hunsur: A debt ridden farmer has committed suicide by consuming pesticides at Bilikere in the taluk on Wednesday afternoon.

The deceased farmer is Shekharegowda (35), a resident of Bilikere. Shekharegowda had obtained Rs. 10 lakh loan from a bank to purchase a tractor, Rs. 3 lakh gold loan and another Rs. 3.5 lakh loan from another bank for agriculture purpose.

It is learnt that due to crop loss since three years, Shekaregowda was unable to repay loans and was depressed. On Wednesday afternoon, he went to his field and had consumed pesticides. Villagers, who saw him writhing in pain, rushed him to a hospital in K.R. Nagar, where he was provided first-aid and was later shifted to K.R. Hospital in Mysuru where he died. A case has been registered at Bilikere Police Station.
