Debt-ridden farmer ends life

Hunsur: A debt ridden farmer has committed suicide by jumping into a lake at Kattemalalawadi village in the taluk yesterday.

The deceased is Chandraiah (75) of the village. He had obtained a loan of Rs. 5.36 lakh from a Bank in 2016 but the crops failed and he was unable to repay the loan till now.

The Bank had sent him a notice to repay the loan in 2023, but Chandraiah was not able to repay the loan. Also, his two children were rendered sick. Depressed over these, Chandraiah allegedly jumped into the lake at the village and ended his life.

A case has been registered at Hunsur Rural Police Station.
