Mysuru; The Mysuru City Traffic Police, who conducted special drives for two days across the city have seized a total of 166 two-wheelers with defective registration number plates.

During the special drives, the Police came to know that the riders in a bid to avoid being penalised for traffic offences were tying lemons, pasting stickers,  sticking magnets and bending the number plates to make sure that the AI cameras could not detect the full registration numbers.

The Cops are also verifying whether such two-wheelers were being used to commit various crimes.

The special drives will continue in city and the City Traffic Police are ready to tackle traffic offenders. During the display of seized two-wheelers at Maharaja’s College Grounds on Saturday, Assistant Commissioner of Police (Traffic) M. Shivashankar informed about the methods used to mask the registration number plates.

Speaking to media persons, ACP Shivashankar said that during the special drives conducted on Friday and Saturday at all Traffic Police Station limits in city, a total of 166 two-wheelers with defective number plates have been seized. Apart from traffic violation, these vehicles are being checked to know they were used to commit various crimes.

The number of two-wheelers seized by the Traffic Police are: Devaraja Traffic Police – 24; Krishnaraja (KR) Traffic Police – 30; Narasimharaja (NR) Traffic Police – 28; Siddarthanagar Traffic Police – 27; V.V. Puram Traffic Police – over 50, the ACP added.

Pointing out that there is a provision to take back the two-wheelers after paying the fine, the ACP said that a FIR will be registered against the owners of two-wheelers who had pasted stickers for which Rs. 500 fine  will be imposed.

Out of the 166 seized two-wheelers, one two-wheeler seized in NR Police limits has a pending violation fine of Rs. 30,000, the ACP said and added that modified silencers making loud noise will be destroyed. Except for two-wheelers against which FIRs are registered, the remaining two-wheelers will be given back after issuing a warning only after the owners pay the fine.
