Direct entry to Expressway from Service Roads Not safe

July 29, 2023

Sir,

Based on my earlier observation in other countries, the present so-called Mysuru-Bengaluru Expressway should not be called an Expressway as direct access to the Expressway from Service Roads has been given at many places en route, where vehicles are moving at a speed of 80 and above.

I was surprised to see such direct access to the Expressway not at one place but at many places! In my opinion, direct entry and exit to the Expressway without proper approach road facility like that of NICE Road should not be given.

In a country, where road safety violations are plenty — many are not serious about road sense; fast-moving vehicles move on the left side, contrary to the existing rule, due to the occupation of slow-moving vehicles on the extreme right lane of the road — it is not safe to provide such entry into the Expressway.

In addition, for safety reasons, when the speed limit is to set  80 and 100 kmph, two-wheelers and autos should not be allowed on the Expressway.

Authorities concerned need to re-look into all the above aspects and modify the design to improve the safety of vehicles entering the Expressway as well as the oncoming vehicles that are moving at higher speeds.

Now I learn that the NHAI authorities have  decided to ban autos and two-wheelers on Expressway with effect from Aug. 1, 2023.
