Direct payment system Pourakarmikas demand regularisation of service

Mysore/Mysuru: Seeking regularisation of services of all Pourakarmikas working under direct payment system, the MCC Regular and Contract Pourakarmika Mahasangha has urged the Government to fill all sanctioned Pourakarmika posts.

Addressing a press meet here on Wednesday, Mahasangha President N. Mara said that though the contract system of appointment has been done away with, the services of only about 50 percent of Pourkarmikas have been regularised, while the rest are continued to be appointed under direct payment system, which is not correct.

Pointing out that while regularised Pourakarmikas are getting a monthly wage of Rs.25,000, those serving under direct payment system are getting only Rs.15,000, Mara urged the Government to end this wage disparity.

Continuing, Mara maintained that door-to-door garbage collection vehicle drivers too must be considered as Pourakarmikas and all of them should get due benefits. He also wanted the Government to set up an exclusive Pourakarmika Welfare Board and to pay Rs.2,000 as monthly crisis allowance to all Pourakarmikas as announced in the 2022-23 Budget.

Mahasangha office-bearers T. Srinivas, N. Mohan Kumar and  C.R. Rachaiah, MCC Garbage Collection Vehicle Drivers Association President S. Murugesh and  General Secretary Seshanna were present at the press meet.
