Mysore/Mysuru: Sub-Registrar (East) Girish, who is an accused in the disproportionate assets case, has been sentenced to four years imprisonment and has also been fined Rs. 2 lakh by the Lokayukta Special Judge yesterday.
In 2014, one Guru Manteswamy had lodged a complaint against M. Girish, who was serving as the Sub-Registrar at the Mysuru East Sub-Registrar’s Office following which the then Lokayukta SP Jagadish Prasad had registered a case under Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, read with 20, conducted a raid and had seized various documents.
Inspectors Nataraju, Gopalakrishna, Parashuram and Balakrishna conducted an investigation and after it was confirmed that the accused had gained 58.72 percent more assets known to his source of income, the Lokayukta Police had submitted its final report to the Court.
Lokayukta Special Judge K. Bhagya, who heard the arguments from both sides, took into consideration the witness of 13 persons and sentenced Girish to four years imprisonment besides imposing a fine of Rs. 2 lakh. If Girish fails to pay the fine, he has to undergo one year simple imprisonment, the Judge ordered.
Lokayukta Special Prosecutor Kaliyanda Muthamma Ponacha argued on behalf of the Government, according to the press release from Lokayukta SP S. Suresh Babu.
