District Administration launches drive to implement COTPA

Mysuru: Department of Health and Family Welfare, District Surveillance Office and District Tobacco Control Cell (DTCC) together had organised a special drive on imposition of COTPA (Cigarettes and other Tobacco Products Act) in Vidyaranyapuram here recently.

The drive covered small shops, bar and restaurants, hotels and at public places.

DTCC District Advisor Shivakumar, Social Activist Navidullah Sharif and Vidyaranyapuram Police participated in the drive.

The public and shops were made aware of salient points of COTPA like pprohibition ofsale of tobacco products in vicinity of educational institutions, banning of smoking at public places, display of boards  indicating ills of smoking and banning of advertisements on tobacco products. Cases were booked on 18 shops for not abiding by the Act.
