District Administration to rehabilitate 3,418 displaced tribal families

DC to send proposal to Government

Mysuru: District Administration has come forward to rehabilitate 3,418 tribal families who have been displaced from their habitat, all under a package scheme.

A meeting of the District-level Committee was held at the Deputy Commissioner’s (DC) office here yesterday to implement the recommendations made by History Professor Muzaffar Assadi in his report.

The meeting, chaired by DC D. Randeep decided to rehabilitate all the 3,418 families from forest region of Mysuru and Kodagu districts. It was also decided to send the proposal of rehabilitation to the Government.

Randeep asked the Tribal Development Officer of the respective district to review and submit the list of tribal families to be rehabilitated to the District Administration within a week.

Prof. Muzaffar Assadi-led Committee was constituted to rehabilitate 5,137 tribal families from Nagarahole, H.D. Kote, Beechanahalli and Virajpet forest regions, who were displaced from 1977 to 2000.

The meeting was attended by Mysuru District Tribal Development Officer Shivakumar, Virajpet Assistant Commissioner Nanjundegowda, ITDP Officer B.M. Prakash and Forest Officials.
