District Admn. to observe World Suicide Prevention Day on Sept. 20

Mysuru: The District Administration has organised a jatha on Sept. 20 to observe World Suicide Prevention Day.

Deputy Commissioner D. Randeep will flag off the jatha from NPC Hospital premises in Nazarbad on that day at 9.30am.

The jatha is organised in association with Zilla Panchayat, District Health and Family Welfare Department, Mental Health Programme Division, Magic Bus India Foundation and District Industries Centre.

ZP CEO P. Shivashankar will inaugurate the stage programme. District Health and Family Welfare Officer Dr. B. Basavaraju will preside. District Surgeon Dr. Pashupathi and Psychiatrist Dr. A.R. Narendra will be the chief guests on the occasion.

Suicide Prevention Day observed at JSS

The Department of Agadatantra and Vidhi Vaidyaka, JSS Ayurveda Medical College, had observed World Suicide Prevention Day-2017 at its premises here on Sept.13.

Prof. T.S. Sathyanarayana Rao, Consultant Psychiatrist and Sexologist, JSS Medical College and Hospital, who was the guest speaker, presented statistics of incidence of suicide State-wise, Nation-wise and Globally.

He also elaborated on the causes, attitude, mentality, age group of both who commit suicide and who have the tendency to commit suicide, in a very lucid way with exclusive illustrations.

Justifiying that depression was the main cause of this attitude, the speaker gave precautionary measures on how to prevent a person from committing suicide and methods of counselling.

He also motivated the gathering to take home the message of self-confidence, positive thinking, happiness, yoga and prayers.

Dr. K. Lakshmeesh Upadhya, Principal, felicitated the guest speaker. Sanjana and group rendered the invocation. Dr. Nagamani welcomed. Dr. Y.C. Pallavi proposed a vote of thanks. Dr. Anjana compered.
