District Child Protection Unit prevents child marriage

Mysuru: District Child Protection Unit officials have prevented a child marriage from taking place at a village in the taluk. Officials, who rescued the minor girl, have handed over her to Balamandira.

The parents of the 17-year-old girl had arranged the marriage on Wednesday and a member of the public had informed about the same to the Child Helpline following which the officials of the District Child Protection Unit, Juvenile Police Unit, members of an NGO and Child Welfare Department visited the minor girl’s house and rescued her.

District Child Protection Officer N.T. Yogesh said that a notice will be issued to the parents of minor girl, conduct an enquiry and further action will be initiated.

The officials have prevented a total of 224 child marriages in Mysuru in the last one year.
