To send blood samples to Manipal for further tests
Mysuru: Following instructions from District Minister Dr. H.C. Mahadevappa, District Health Officer (DHO) Dr. B. Basavaraj along with other health officials visited Cheluvamba Hospital yesterday and held discussions with doctors about fever cases besides interacting with patients suffering from fever.
The DHO was accompanied with MMC&RI Dean and Director Dr. B. Krishnamurthy, K.R. Hospital Medical Superintendent Dr. S. Chandrashekar, Resident Medical Officer Dr. Manjunath, MCC Health Officer Dr. Ramachandra and MMC&RI Microbiology HOD Prof. Anuradha.
They held discussions to know exactly which virus was causing the problems as ELISA Test reports on blood samples to confirm dengue was showing negative but the platelets count of patients with viral fever was decreasing putting medical fraternity in a state of confusion.
Dr. Basavaraj said “In Mysuru, many people suffering from high fever have been admitted in various hospitals, but when their blood samples were subjected to ELISA Test, the reports show negative for dengue and doctors are unable to diagnose the type of fever, but the platelet count of patients with viral fever was decreasing. This has become a challenge to the medical fraternity. Hence we conducted detailed discussions and decided to send a few blood samples to Manipal Centre for Viral Research in Udupi for advance tests.”
He said that Prof. Anuradha spoke to an expert in Manipal over phone and apprised him of the situation here for which the expert has asked us to send the blood samples for testing.
He said that the District Health authorities are planning to hold a meeting to chalk out a plan on how to control mosquitoes in the district.
