District-level sports meet for youths

Mysuru: The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports in association with Department of Youth Empowerment and Sports (DYES), Mysuru, Nehru Yuva Kendra, Mysuru, Sri Valmiki Yuvaka Nayakara Sangha, H.D. Kote and Sri Ram Boys Sangha, Saragur, had organised a district-level sports meet for youths (aged between 15 and 29 years) at Chamundi Vihar Stadium in city this morning, which was inaugurated by In-charge Mayor Sunanda Palanetra.

The sports meet has been organised as part of ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ in which about 15 youths are taking part.

Speaking after inaugurating the sports meet, In-charge Mayor Sunanda Palanetra said, “Everyone must actively take part in sporting events for good health by keeping aside the fear of COVID pandemic. Winning and losing is part of every game and there should be a healthy and active competition between all sportspersons,” she said.

Pointing out the fact that no sporting events like these were organised from the past two years due to the pandemic, the In-charge Mayor suggested the participants to make use of the sports meet organised exclusively for them.

She also informed the youths to keep their body hydrated all the time and take adequate rest before getting started.

 DYES Assistant Director K. Suresh, who presided, said, “Apart from film stars, sportspersons, who have their own fan base, draw the attention of common people.”

“Sports and culture are the two aspects that spread the message of peace to everyone. These two carry a lot of value and significance,” he said.

Cultural Advisor of the first Vice-President of Nepal Dr. M.P. Varsha, HoD of Psychology at Maharani’s Arts College for Women Prof. M.S Manonmani, President of Sri Talacauvery Women’s Education Trust Nalini Thammaiah, President of  Keerthi Yuvathi Mahila Mandali Manjula Ramesh and others were present.
