District Minister launches State-level Floodlight Kho-Kho Tournament

January 12, 2019

A three-day State-level Invitational Men’s Floodlight Kho-Kho Tournament, organised by National Sports Club, Mysuru And Mysore District Kho-Kho Association, in memory of late Sanjay (National-level kho-kho player) and late C.R. Gururaj Rao (former State-level player), commenced last evening at Sougandhika Park in Kuvempunagar here. Totally eight teams from Hassan, Bhadravathi, Bengaluru, Mysuru and Kolar are participating in the Tournament.

Inaugurating the Tournament, District Minister G.T. Devegowda recalled that during yesteryears, games like Kho-Kho and Kabaddi were very popular adding that he had broken his arm playing Kabaddi. He opined that Kho-Kho helped to strengthen body and mind. However, he regretted that students were too pressurised to excel in academics.

He said that he has suggested Vice-Chancellors and Registrars of all Universities to make room for sports and cultural activities in the curriculum, which alone can evolve a complete person.

Continuing, Devegowda pointed out that people have more craze for cricket now and Kho-Kho has fallen behind and suggested that Kho-Kho should be encouraged at the National-level on the lines of Kabaddi.

Mysore University DPE Director P. Krishnaiah, National Sports Club Chairman Rajagopal, President Srinivas Hegde, KR Cooperative Bank Chairman H. Vasu, ZP Member Beerihundi Basavanna and Corporator M.C. Ramesh were present.
