Doctor gives health tips to senior citizens

Mysuru: The Elder Citizens Council, Jayalakshmipuram, as part of their monthly talk,  had conducted a programme on health tips to Senior Citizens by an eminent medical doctor Dr. Shailaja, a Consultant ENT Specialist in city.

The talk was attended by more than 100 seniors. The Council conducts similar talks on first Monday evening  of every month.

Dr. Shailaja, who has a lot of experience as medical professional, explained the various health problems faced by seniors, particularly of those over 80 years, which were quite practical and related to day-to-day problems. She suggested several preventive methods to follow, as health tips  to keep sound health.

She also referred to the method of consuming light food or fruits during nights once in a week or fortnight to solve the problems of constipation or the problems faced by the diabetic patients and maintain better food habits.

Her advices included avoiding of sleep during day time for easy digestion and maintain regular timings for sleep during nights so that one can enjoy sound sleep. Drinking more quantity of water would pave the way for solving the urination problem for the aged, she  added.

Apart from the health, she also advised the senior citizens not to retain with them  costly items like jewellery and heavy bank accounts at their ripe age as they bring in more risk to their lives.

Many of them were amused by the advice and interacted with her with respect to their own health problems and got advice to lead a better life.

Susheela Marigowda, Vice-President, Venkataramanachar, Treasurer, Committee Members K.V.
