Mysore/Mysuru: Doctors’ Day was celebrated at Sigma Hospital in city on Saturday.
Speaking on the occasion, Hospital Director Dr. G. Siddesh said that Dr. Bidhan Chandra (B.C.) Roy, apart from medical profession, also took part in freedom struggle.
“Dr. B.C. Roy also played an important role in establishing Indian Medical Association (IMA) and Indian Medical Council and hence the Government of India had approved his birthday to be celebrated as Doctors’ Day,” Dr. Siddesh added.
Another Director Dr. Rajeshwari Madappa, who too spoke, said that though the lifestyle of people has changed, the lifestyle of the doctors has remained the same due to increase in population and increase in diseases.
She appealed the people not to exert pressure on doctors because the health of doctors was also important.
Hospital Managing Director S. Gnanashankar said that the doctors at the hospital were providing excellent service and added that discounts are being given to poor patients and very poor patients were provided free treatment including surgeries on humanitarian grounds.
Hospital Directors Dr. K.M. Madappa and Dr. Anjali Siddesh, Consultant Urologist, Laparoscopic & Transplant Surgeon Dr. D.N. Somanna, Dr. Gowri S. Hukkeri and Consultant Nephrologist Dr. Aniketh Prabhakar were present.
